A mother and her two 4-year-old children were swept away by a train in Croatia.

The incident happened this morning at the railroad crossing in Bolfan, on the road between Koprivnitsa and Varazhdin, reports the information site Index.

Police held a brief news conference at the scene, where a police spokesman said the passenger train collided with the car when the driver failed to stop at the sign and the car went under the passing train.

"She died. One child, aged four, died at the scene and the other child, also aged four, sadly died of his injuries in hospital. The driver's seat was taken for treatment, his injuries should not have danger to life. The investigation continues," said the police spokesman, quoted by BTA.

After the examination, the bodies will be transported for autopsy.

An examination of the car will be carried out, he added.

It is about one family, the dead were relatives.

The dead children are a boy and a girl," the spokesman said.

On September 10, an accident between a passenger and freight train in Croatia killed three people and injured 11.

The composition hit a freight train stopped due to an accident, which derailed after the impact.

Only the driver, who was hospitalized, was in the freight train.
