A secret letter written by Queen Elizabeth II is locked inside a safe in a historic building in Sydney and cannot be opened for another 63 years.

The handwritten letter was completed in November 1986, after the Queen Victoria Building in Sydney was renovated, and the letter is addressed to the people of Sydney.

It is placed in a glass case in a restricted area, and no one knows what is written on the paper - not even the Queen's personal staff.

However, one thing is known – it may not open until 2085.

The instruction addressed to the Lord Mayor of Sydney reads: "At a convenient time to be chosen by you in the year 2085 BCE, please open this envelope and deliver to the citizens of Sydney my message to them."
