California's Death Valley recorded its hottest September day on record.

The thermometers showed 53°C at 16:00 on September 1, reports Nova TV.

The absolute record for the highest temperature on Earth, recorded in the same place, is from July 10, 1913. Then the mercury jumped to 56.7°C.

Forecasters have predicted that Death Valley could see a new record in the coming days as California is gripped by a dangerous heat wave.

The Valley also has problems with heavy rainfall.

In just three hours on August 5, rain fell in the area with an amount that basically corresponds to the annual norm.

The torrents caused mudslides and road damage.

Many of them are still closed.
