Another wave of COVID-19 in Greece is subsiding, data from last week show, according to which all key indicators of the pandemic have significantly decreased compared to the last week of July, Kathimerini and BTA report.

A decline was observed in all indicators - from the number of newly registered infected through the index of the risk of infection to the deaths of patients with the disease.

In particular, the week of August 1 to 7 saw 100,421 cases (9,626 per million population), a 19 percent drop from the previous week.

Of these cases, 21 percent involved re-infections.

Growth of COVID cases in Greece

The National Public Health Service reported 314 deaths of patients with COVID-19, compared with 355 in the last week of July.

Since the start of the pandemic, a total of 31,722 deaths related to coronavirus infection have been registered in Greece.

In addition, for the first time during the current epidemic wave, the number of intubated patients with COVID-19 also decreased - 120 on Sunday, August 7, compared to 138 on Sunday, July 3.

Last week, 2,343 patients infected with coronavirus were admitted to hospitals in the country, which is about 200 less than the previous week (2,558 admissions).
