Romania has already had air medical assistance for 11 years.

Some time ago the Romanians were behind us, and now we see how we should learn from them.

This was stated in the morning block of BNT by engineer Marijan Bonovski on the occasion of the lack of air medical assistance in our country.

According to him, the acquisition of one helicopter by the end of the year is pointless, given that we have neither trained personnel nor the HEMS system built.

Expert: There is no way a Cougar can be used for an air ambulance

If we want to build this thing, we must first strategize how to do it, then commit serious funds.

The maintenance of a helicopter base costs between 3.5 and 4 million euros per year with an average of 400 flight hours.

If we have 6 such bases and assume that one of them is 24/7, we will need somewhere around BGN 56 million per year from the state budget, explained the expert.

According to him, the announced public order for the purchase of medical helicopters has already been appealed several times by the major helicopter manufacturers, because the order itself was not written competently enough and there are contradictions in it.

The Ministry of Health will purchase six medical helicopters

Viktor Ivanov, who is a supporter of the idea of emergency medical assistance by air, took part in the topic.

He recalled that the debates on the acquisition of air ambulances in our country have been at least since 2012 and still nothing.

There are several lobbies in the country that oppose each other.

In the Balkans, everything seems to be about money, believes Ivanov, whose life was saved years ago precisely thanks to a medical helicopter in Austria after an accident in the Alps.
