The Deputy of the Democratic League of Kosovo (LDK), Besian Mustafa has said that the current Government has chosen to play the role of a spectator while the citizens are experiencing the severe economic situation with record inflation rates.

Mustafa said through a media conference that LDK in the spring of 2021 had warned of the electricity crisis, which was ignored by the government.

"While the citizens of Kosovo are experiencing the difficult situation with record inflation rates, with stratospheric prices of basic products, which are increasing month by month, the government has chosen to play the role of a spectator.

It was the spring of 2021 when the chairman of the LDK, Lumir Abdixhiku, warned of the electricity crisis, while the first response of the government was not listening, while the second response was, and I am quoting it here, 'that there is no crisis, we have no way let's deal with the crisis,' said Mustafa.

And according to him, when the crisis reached the country, the government insisted that there will be no reductions in energy and that there will be no increase in energy bills, Telegrafi reports.

"It didn't take long and unfortunately what we at LDK had warned about happened.

In addition to the reductions, the electricity bill became more expensive.

This conference today is the next warning, that the government has not yet undertaken any concrete steps or measures so that our citizens do not have another burden in their pockets this winter", he said.

Mustafa said that the government makes empty decisions and the energy sector companies are in debt to each other and to the international market.

"The government promises 90 million euros in subsidies for energy, while the energy sector is heading towards bankruptcy.

The situation is so dire, the actions of the government are so uncoordinated, that even the ERO, now transformed into a government department, expressed its concern on Thursday...", he said.

Mustafa said that LDK has been giving its proposals for alleviating the energy crisis for some time now.

"The LDK has already given concrete proposals for mitigating the effects of this crisis, such as: Timely repair of KEK blocks, timely provision of electricity import through long-term contracts at affordable costs, complete elimination of VAT on electricity bills, elimination of discriminatory tariffs, incentive measures as an alternative source for heating, incentive and financing measures for energy efficiency", he emphasized.

Meanwhile, he also addressed the government with some questions: "Now that the winter season is fast approaching, we ask the government to answer these questions: Will there be enough energy in the winter, or will there be reductions?"

Will the price of energy become more expensive for citizens and local producers and if so, how much?

In case of increasing unaffordability, what will the government do for the citizen?

How many Kosovar families are at risk of impoverishment due to the increase in the price of energy and essential products?

”, said, among others, Besian Mustafa from LDK.
