The Parliamentary Committee on Health unanimously adopted in the first reading a Bill to supplement the Law on Medicinal Products in Human Medicine, according to which the treatment of children with medicines outside the conditions of the authorization for use will be paid for with public funds - by the NHIF.

The legislative change was proposed by people's representatives Anton Tonev ("We continue the change"), Georgi Mihailov ("BSP for Bulgaria"), Ivaylo Hristov ("There is such a people") and Alexander Simidchiev ("Democratic Bulgaria").

The reasons for the petitioners state that the purpose of the proposed changes is to overcome the legal ban on paying with public funds for medicines administered "off label" - outside the conditions of the authorization for use.

The proposal provides for an exception in cases where the drugs are administered to children.

The drugs are intended to be used in the treatment of children suffering from rare diseases, from oncohematological and from autoimmune diseases.

An expensive medicine has been removed from the National Health Service's list of paid medicines for children

NHIF, the ministries of health and finance, the ombudsman, the professional associations of pharmacists and pharmacists, as well as patient organizations support the proposed changes.

There is not a single negative opinion, said the chairman of the commission, Prof. Anton Tonev.

A few days ago, the retired Minister of Health Asena Serbezova told journalists that regulatory changes are expected for the treatment of children with drugs not approved for use in Bulgaria.

According to her, the funds to pay for the therapies are provided, notes BTA.
