New Delhi:

In Sir Ganga Ram Hospital, the challenging 'Auto-Kidney Transplant' means that the patient's own kidney was removed and transplanted into another part of his body.

The doctors of Sir Ganga Ram Hospital have done wonders together.

According to the information, the missing urine tube of 25 cm was rebuilt by the cells taken from the urine bag and attached to the pouch.

After this operation, the patient's left kidney was removed and transplanted on the right side.

Now both the kidneys are on the right side of the patient.

Last month, 29-year-old patient Abhay (name changed) from Punjab reached the Urology and Kidney Transplant Department of Sir Ganga Ram Hospital.

He had a problem of stones in the left urinary tract (the tube connecting the kidney and the urinary sac).

The local doctor from Punjab tried to remove the stone, but during this procedure, 25-26 cm of the left ureter also came out along with the stone.

Now the urinary tube connecting the left kidney to the urinary sac had completely disappeared.

According to Dr. Vipin Tyagi, Senior Consultant, Department of Urology and Kidney Transplant, Sir Ganga Ram Hospital, “A normal patient has one kidney on the left side and one on the right side and there are two urinary tracts connecting these kidneys to the urinary sac. There are two drains (ureters).

But in this case we were surprised to see that the left kidney was lying alone without a urinary tract.”

According to Dr. Sudhir Chadha, Co-Chairperson, Department of Urology, Sir Ganga Ram Hospital, “It was going to be a challenging surgery considering the complexity of the case.

The options before us were to either remove the kidney or to reconstruct the missing connection between the kidney and the bladder using the intestine or to do an auto-transplant of the kidney.

Dr. Vipin Tyagi, who performed the operation, added, "Since the patients were young and reconstruction of the intestine to the ureter was not the right option, we decided to do 'auto-kidney transplant', which means This means that in this patient, take out the normal kidney from the left side and bring it as close as possible to the urine bag on the right. Now there was a difference of 4-5 cm between the kidney brought on the right side and the urine bag. was."

According to Dr. Vipin Tyagi, “Now another challenge was the kidney was close to the bladder but there was a distance of 4-5 cm between the kidney tube and the urinary sac.

For this we decided to reconstruct a new tube of 4-5 cm using the wall of the urinary sac.

As soon as this reconstructed tube was connected to the bladder, the blood flow to this kidney was resumed and the process of passing urine from this tube started immediately.

Now the patient has recovered well and was recently discharged with both functioning kidneys on one side (right side) of the body.

According to Dr. Harsh Johri, Chairperson, Department of Renal Transplant, Sir Ganga Ram Hospital, “There are three types of organ transplants – Auto-transplant, Allo-transplant and Xeno transplant. Transplant.Auto-transplant means to transplant an organ from one place to another in the same human.Allo-transplant means to transplant organs from one person to another and Xeno transplant means non-human source Transplanting organs from humans to humans. Although auto-transplant in this patient was challenging, our team carried out it successfully.”
