Cuneyt Arkin, one of the most famous actors in the history of Turkish cinema, has died at the age of 85.

He was ill while receiving medical treatment at a private hospital in Istanbul's Besiktas district.

The actor passed away surrounded by his family, wife Betul Cureklibatir and other relatives.

According to hospital statements, Arkin died due to sudden cardiac arrest.

The veteran actor portrayed a wide range of characters, from that of an elegant gentleman to Turkish warriors, space invaders and police chiefs throughout his career at Yesilçam.

One of his most famous films was the 1982 film The Man Who Saved the World.

He was born Fahrettin Cureklibatır on September 8, 1937, to a poor rural family in Eskisehir in western Turkey.

After years of medical education, Fahrettin "Cuneyt Arkin" Cureklibatur tried to become a short story writer.

Arin completed his military service in Eskisehir where he met with director Halit Refig.

After working for some time as a doctor and completing his military service, he joined a competition held by 'Artist' magazine.

He won the competition and started his acting career.

After entering Turkish cinema, he made about 30 films in his first two years, which was not uncommon in the early days of the Turkish film industry.

From portraying handsome passionate youngsters in romance to starring in action thrillers, feature films, comedy and science fiction, he would include a large repertoire throughout his career.

The deceased has received various awards during his career.

However, the real price for it is endless admiration from people of every generation.
