As the official representative of the Ministry of Defense of Belarus

Inna Gorbacheva

told the newspaper "SB-Belarus Today", the agency is currently working on a draft law "On the People's Militia", which, according to her, will be part of territorial defense.

“It is planned to attract adult citizens of our country who are unfit for military service or territorial defense due to their health condition, but those who have no obstacles to the use of weapons.

On a gratuitous basis, on its own initiative. "

Asked what the militia would do, she said:

"Units are created to solve secondary problems in places that do not involve the actions of regular troops and territorial defense forces, based on existing resources and human capabilities of the relevant territorial units - villages, towns, villages, cities.

Management is carried out by local authorities.

The People's Militia is intended for:

  • protection of public order and assistance to district police inspectors;

  • protection of property from looting and other illegal encroachments;

  • providing curfew and restricting the movement of vehicles;

  • conducting reconnaissance, identifying collaborators, spies and saboteurs. "

Regarding weapons, the Ministry of Defense said:

"The armament of militia units, as a rule, includes only small arms, the development of which is not difficult."

On May 27, the head of the Ministry of Defense of Belarus

Viktor Khrenin

said that Lukashenko had set a task to create a people's militia, and "there are people and weapons for this."

According to Hrenin, in the current "difficult military-political situation around Belarus," territorial defense "can have a decisive effect in the armed conflict."

On June 3,

Alexander Lukashenko

told how he saw the People's Militia.

According to Lukashenka, these should be groups of about 50 people in each village council, trained in the possession of basic weapons.

"However, there should be no uncontrolled distribution of weapons, as happened in Ukraine," Lukashenko said.

- All our territories are assigned, organized into regiments, battalions.

We know the last names, all their details.

And weapons are prepared for them - for every district, every battalion. "
