is celebrated every year on 14th June.

Blood donation is also called life donation and blood donor can give new life to an unknown person.

The main reason for celebrating this day is to promote the importance of donating blood and to spread awareness about it.

The World Health Organization started celebrating this day from the year 2004.

The theme of this year's World Blood Donor Day is 'Blood donation is an act of solidarity.

Join this effort and save lives.'

Although everyone should donate blood, but there are 7 types of people who are not advised to donate blood because of their condition or health.

Let's find out who these people are. 

Who cannot donate blood?

Who Cannot Donate Blood 

No matter how much you want to donate blood, but when it comes to health and health related problems of yourself and the person in front, then you need to avoid this desire.

According to the WHO guidelines, some people cannot donate blood. 

blood donation interval 

If you have donated blood once within 2 months or 56 days then you cannot do it again.

Doing so will compromise the health of the donor. 

fever or cold 

The blood of a person who has fever or any kind of flu is not considered suitable for blood donation.

Only when you are completely cured will you be able to donate blood. 

pregnant woman 

No pregnant woman can donate blood.

Anemia or anemia is common during pregnancy and in such a situation, there can be an excessive deficiency of iron in the body by donating blood. 

new tattoo 

If a person has got a tattoo done on the body within 3 months, then he is considered incapable of donating blood. 

body piercing

Like getting a tattoo done, if someone has pierced anywhere on the body within the last 3 months, then that person cannot donate blood. 


A person who is less than 17 years of age cannot donate blood.

However, any person above the age of 17 years can donate blood till any age if he does not have any kind of chronic disease. 


The person whose weight is less than 50 kg is not advised to donate blood.

Donating blood in this situation will be harmful for the person.
