Jennifer Lopez is officially a Generation Award winner.

During Sunday's MTV Film & TV Awards, the 52-year-old star was honored with the "Generation Award" (the Generation Award which honors actors whose diverse contributions in both film and television have turned them into familiar names.

The actress and singer began her award acceptance speech by referring to the lead roles of her biggest films.

"I watch those movies and I see all the wonderful people I have been blessed to meet and work with.

You are just as good as the people you work with.

And if you are lucky, they do better.

"And I was very lucky in that direction," said Lopez.

"As an actress, I am not one of the women I have played, but there is a part that is deeply true for me in each of those characters.

"Since you can not create the truth if you have not really lived it, I have another kind of 'thank you' list tonight," she continued.

"I want to thank all the people who gave me this life.

"I want to thank the people who gave me joy and those who broke my heart," said Lopez

"Those who were real and those who lied to me.

"I want to thank true love and I want to thank the way I lied to myself because that's how I knew I had to grow up," she said.

The "Let's Get Loud" singer continued to thank "the disappointment and failure that taught me to be strong", adding, "and my children who taught me to love", while she cried.

Lopez, who is the mother of 14-year-old twins Emme and Max, then received acclaim from the audience as she became emotional and with teary eyes.

"I want to thank all the people who told me in the face or when I was not in the room that I could not do that.

I really do not think I could do it without you.

"And I know I could do it without the fans who have seen the movies," said Jennifer.

Lopez apologized to the audience for being "excited", adding: "You know me.

It's an honor to be able to connect with your audience - to connect with you.

And because of all of you, I will continue to do justice to that honor as long as I am near.

I love you.

Thank you very much."

She also thanked the MTV team for its support "over the years".

Concluding with a message for her fiancé Ben Affleck, who was not present, Lopez said, "Wait for me to have dinner, I'll be home at seven o'clock."

Lopez has a film career spanning decades.

Some of her most memorable roles are as headline music legend in Selena's 1997, Hustlers 2019, as well as some romantic comedies over the years, including 'The Wedding Planner', Maid nw Mahhattan and most recently Marry Me.

In March, the multiple star accepted the "Icon" award for her music career at the iHeartRadio Music Awards, where she said in part in her exciting speech: "I're just starting."

Previous Generation Awards winners include Scarlett Johansson, Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson, Chris Pratt, Will Smith, Reese Witherspoon, Robert Downey, Jr., Mark Wahlberg, Sandra Bullock, Jamie Foxx, Johnny Depp, Ben Stiller, Adam S Mike Myers, Tom Cruise, Jim Carrey and the entire Fast & Furious franchise.
