Odisha's autorickshaw driver returned a gold necklace worth Rs 1.6 lakh to the passenger

A 35-year-old autorickshaw driver in Odisha's Ganjam district has won accolades for a woman passenger by returning her gold necklace worth Rs 1.6 lakh.

A few days back, the woman had accidentally left this necklace in an autorickshaw.

Autorickshaw driver Pankaj Behera had found a necklace weighing around 30 grams under the passenger seat while cleaning his vehicle on Friday.

The autorickshaw driver on Saturday handed it over to the woman Narmada Behera at the New Bus Stand police post in the presence of police officials and some members of the local auto drivers' union.

The autorickshaw driver had taken a 30-year-old woman and her family members from New Bus Stand to Gopalpur on Wednesday.

A police officer said, 'Bahera had kept the gold necklace in his purse, but it must have accidentally fallen into the vehicle, which the woman did not even know.

After reaching home she came to know that the necklace was not in her purse and immediately called the autorickshaw driver whom she already knew.

He looked in the auto, but did not find the necklace that day.

"After getting the necklace while cleaning my autorickshaw, I informed the police and the woman's family," the driver said.

Narayan Swain, in-charge of the police post, appreciated the honesty of the driver.

The woman was also relieved by getting the jewelery back.

The woman said, 'For the last few days, I had sleepless nights.

Now, I am very happy and thankful to the autorickshaw driver.
