Germany's Constitutional Court has approved rules on mandatory coronavirus vaccination for healthcare workers, the Associated Press reported.



The court said it had rejected an appeal against the measure, arguing that protecting vulnerable people in hospitals and nursing homes was more important than not violating the rights of health workers.

The German government initially planned to extend compulsory vaccination to all adults, but even the proposal to introduce it for people over the age of 60 was rejected by lawmakers.

So far, almost 76 percent of the country's population has received two doses of the coronavirus vaccine.
