British oil giant Shell announces it will fully withdraw from the purchase of crude oil from Russia.

Shell has also apologized for buying a shipment of Russian oil over the past week.

"We are fully aware that our decision last week to buy a shipment of Russian oil was not the right one," he said.

"We are sorry," said Shell chief executive Ben van Beurden.

As an immediate first step, we will stop all spot purchases of Russian crude oil, shut service stations, aviation fuels & lubricants operations in Russia.

The company said it would immediately stop all purchases of Russian oil and close its service stations and operations in Russia.

While the withdrawal from Russian oil products, such as liquefied natural gas (LNG) will be carried out "in several stages."
