The request concerned "the crisis situation on the EU's external border with Belarus."

In total, the detainees included citizens of 39 countries: Iraq (7716, or 68.7%), Syria (1713 or 15.3%), Yemen (534 or 4.8%), Iran (519 or 4.6%), Afghanistan (289 or 2.6%), Turkey (171 or 1.5%), Egypt (76 or 0.7%) and other countries.

Belarusian citizens were detained in September and November.

In response to the deputy's request, the government stressed that it would continue to "closely monitor the situation" and take any necessary decisions.

They also assured that the government would continue to "strongly oppose any use of refugees and migrants by the Belarusian regime for political purposes."

According to the German Foreign Ministry, in 2021 at least 20,000 illegal migrants entered the EU via Belarus, in January 2022 361 people took the same route.
