According to the latest weekly report from the WHO, published this Wednesday, the number of deaths as a result of the coronavirus decreased by 9% during the last week.

Likewise, the number of new cases remained stable.

The United Nations agency reported that in the last week there were more than 14,000 deaths from covid and almost seven million infections.

Cases increased 30% in the Western Pacific and decreased 46% in Africa.

In America and the Middle East, the number of infections fell by more than 20%.

Deaths increased 19% in the Middle East, but fell more than 70% in the African continent, 15% in Europe and 10% in Africa.

The omicron BA.5 subvariant continues to dominate the world, accounting for nearly 70% of reported virus sequences, according to the WHO.

The data indicate that other subvariants of omicron appear to decrease.

The World Health Organization clarified that its evaluation of covid trends continues to be limited by the abandonment of countries in part of the surveillance, testing and sequencing efforts, as a consequence of the relaxation of pandemic controls.
