Three months after Russia's invasion of Ukraine, the war and its risks to the recovery of the world economy will be at the center of discussions among the world's elites gathering in Davos today, AFP reported.

The World Economic Forum (WIF) is returning to the Swiss ski resort after a two-year hiatus over the COVID-19 pandemic.

In 2021, the traditional annual meeting had to go online.

And the Omicron option forced the organizers to postpone the forum from January to May this year.

"Our thoughts are focused on the war in Ukraine," said SIF founder Klaus Schwab, presenting the program of the event, which he said was taking place in "unprecedented political, economic and social conditions."

The President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky will be the first head of state to deliver a speech.

He seems likely to take the opportunity to call on the world to send new aid to Ukraine - financial and military - and perhaps renew Kyiv's application for EU membership.

His speech will be presented via video link.

However, a number of Ukrainian politicians are expected to attend in person, such as Foreign Minister Dmytro Kuleba and Kyiv Mayor Vitali Klitschko.

"Our main request to everyone here is: do not stop supporting Ukraine," Ivanna Klympush, one of the Ukrainian MPs who arrived in Davos, told reporters last night.

She called on the world to make sure that Russia "will no longer be able to wage a new war against anyone in the region."

"We need weapons more than anything else," said another parliamentarian, Anastasia Radina.

"Weapons like those of NATO, this is what helps us win the war and ensure that the lives of civilians are saved for future generations," she added.

In the wake of Western sanctions against Russia, the SIF ruled out the participation of Russian officials this year, as is common among many in Davos.

And instead of the platform "Russian House", known from previous years, will be organized "House of Russian War Crimes", which will arrange various events in support of Ukraine with the participation of famous Ukrainian figures.
