Ukraine calls on the states of the Caspian region to make every effort to force the Russian Federation to comply with international legal obligations, especially the Convention on the Legal Status of the Caspian Sea.

APA reports that this was reflected in the statement issued by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine (MFA) on Russia's violation of the Convention on the Legal Status of the Caspian Sea.

Clause 2 of Article 3 of the Convention stipulates "the use of the Caspian Sea for peaceful purposes, its transformation into a zone of peace, friendly neighborhood and cooperation, and the peaceful settlement of all issues related to the Caspian Sea."

We emphasize that Russia's firing of missiles from the Caspian region at the civilian infrastructure facilities of Ukrainian cities grossly violates the provisions of the Convention.

"Ukraine calls on the states that are parties to the Convention to encourage the Russian Federation to stop using the waters of the Caspian Sea in order to continue its armed aggression against Ukraine, as well as to prevent further militarization of that region and its involvement in any armed conflict," the statement reads.
