He said that Russian President Vladimir Putin's "brutal and unjustified" invasion of Ukraine showed that the West can no longer automatically expect major world powers to adhere to accepted international norms.

"As a result of Putin's actions, we can no longer rely on the Chinese leadership to behave in a way that we consider rational," the 69-year-old said.

"Do not misunderstand me.

I am not saying that China will try to take Taiwan by force in the near future.

But we cannot base our policy on the certainty that they will not do this", declared the former head of the British government.

Blair said that the biggest geopolitical change of this century will come from China, not Russia, "we are approaching the end of Western political and economic dominance".

Otherwise, Tony Blair is known for the active role he played in the bombing of the Serbian military forces to prevent the genocide against the Kosovar Albanians in 1999.
