There are three different types of COVID-19, each with its own set of symptoms, according to British scientists.

The scientists investigated the characteristics of 1,459 patients with prolonged coronavirus, which the study authors define as feeling symptoms at least 84 days after infection.

They found, they claim, that people with long-term virus can be classified into three basic groups.

Neurological symptoms

Those with neurological symptoms such as fatigue, lightheadedness and headaches.

These symptoms are more common in people infected with the alpha and delta variants.

Respiratory symptoms

In the second group, respiratory symptoms predominate, including chest pain and shortness of breath.

This was mainly experienced by people who were infected with the original Wuhan variant of the virus.

Various symptoms

In the third group, symptoms are more varied and include heart palpitations, muscle pain and skin changes, say scientists from King's College London.

"The data obtained from the research clearly show that long-term COVID-19 is not unique, but has several subtypes," said lead author Dr.

Claire Stevens.

"Understanding causative agents and subtypes can help personalize diagnosis and treatment," she added.
