[Reporter Wu Liangyi/Taipei Report] The local epidemic of Wuhan pneumonia (new coronavirus disease, COVID-19) BA.5 hit a new peak in a single day today. A premature infant who was only one day old and became seriously ill after contracting the epidemic is currently the youngest of severe cases.

The baby boy's mother was born prematurely at only 27 weeks of pregnancy. He was born on the 28th of last month, with an extremely low weight of less than 1,500 grams. Four days before birth, the mother tested positive for lung cancer. Due to birth canal hemorrhage and uterine contractions, an emergency caesarean section was performed, and the baby boy was admitted to the intensive care unit. Observed and diagnosed with neonatal infection and respiratory distress, given antibiotics and intubated with a respirator.
