After several years it took to design and manufacture, the first large vehicle that does not emit outdoor gases was introduced at a platinum mine in South Africa.

According to foreign media, the Telegraph reports, the truck that has a "hybrid core" installed and is filled with hydrogen, was produced and designed by the Seattle-based company First Mode.

The 200-foot-tall 200-tonne NuGen hybrid mining truck was also welcomed by South African President Cyril Ramaphosa.

He was present at the acceptance ceremony at the Mogalakwena open-air platinum mine, which is owned by Anglo American.

"It's a big, smart step for Anglo American, but for South Africa's hydrogen-based economy, it's a giant step as we move into the future.

"The hydrogen-based economy is echoing our country and putting our name at the top of the industry," Ramaphosa was quoted as saying.
