During the debates, a resolution condemning Moscow's actions will also be voted on.

It is unclear whether the vote will take place on Monday given the large number of speakers expected to take the floor.

Russia vetoed a similar draft resolution on Friday at the UN Security Council, the UN's most powerful 15-nation body.

Then China, India, Brazil and Gabon abstained from voting.

During the vote in the General Assembly, a solid majority is expected to decide in favor of the conviction.

However, the resolution will be evaluated against the two previous results.

In March, the assembly condemned Russia's invasion of Ukraine by a record majority of 141 votes.

Following Russia's annexation of Crimea in 2014, 100 member states supported a resolution that called for the restoration of Ukraine's territorial integrity.
