Himanta Biswa Sarma announces renaming of many places in Assam

On the lines of BJP ruled states like Madhya Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh, Karnataka, there is a preparation to change the names of many places in Assam.

Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma

announced this on Wednesday.

He said that soon one portal would be started in Assam.

Through this, suggestions will be sought to change the names of those places in the whole of

Assam

which do not reflect the culture and civilization of the state. The name of some places including the mountain will be changed.

However, the names of which places will be changed or the government itself will suggest about the names, it is not known yet.

The Chief Minister tweeted, 'There is a lot in the name.

The name of a city, town or village should reflect its culture, tradition and civilization.

We will start a portal to invite suggestions to change the names of such places across Assam, which is against our civilization, culture and is degrading to any caste or community.

However, many on Twitter questioned the need to change the names of places and suggested the government to focus more on works like building roads and better infrastructure in the state.


Earlier, the names of many big places have been changed in Madhya Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh and many other BJP ruled states.

In this, the name of Habibganj railway station in Madhya Pradesh has been changed to Gond Rani Kamalapati station.

Earlier Patalpani Railway Station was renamed as Tantya Mama Railway Station.

In UP also the name of Allahabad has been changed to Prayagraj.

Faizabad Junction station has been renamed as Ayodhya Cantt.

The name of Faizabad district and division has also been changed to Ayodhya.
