On the evening of August 8, former US President

Donald Trump

announced that FBI agents searched his Mar-a-Lago residence in Florida, including opening his personal safe.

Donald Trump was in New York at that time.

The US Federal Bureau of Investigation has not yet officially commented on this message, but the US media, citing their sources, write that the FBI has become the object of attention of official documents, including secret ones, which the former president took with him when leaving the White House.

By law, they are government property and the US National Archives has long demanded the return of the documents.

Some of them were returned.

However, a few months ago, the National Archives appealed to the Attorney General's Office, accusing Donald Trump of refusing to hand over all the documents.

According to the New York Times, in order to obtain a search warrant, the FBI had to convince a judge that investigators had reason to believe they were investigating potential criminal activity.

According to experts, if the former president had unreasonably had secret documents at his disposal, then this could qualify as a criminal act.

The investigation related to the documents is not the only one related to the former US President Trump.

Recently, there have been reports that the Attorney General's Office has expanded its investigation into Donald Trump's attempts to influence the procedure for certifying the results of the 2020 presidential election, in which he refused to admit his loss.

Donald Trump condemned the actions of the FBI:

"Nothing like this has ever happened to former US presidents.

This raid on my home, which took place despite our cooperation with the appropriate government agencies, was neither necessary nor appropriate.''

The head of the Republican minority in the House of Representatives, Kevin McCarthy, warned that the actions of the prosecutor's office in relation to the former president will be the subject of an investigation if the Republicans get a majority in Congress in the elections this November.

As president, Donald Trump spent considerable time at his residence in Mar-a-Lago, part of which is used as a golf club.
