A trial has been held on the appeal of the arrested former Prosecutor General of Armenia Agvan Ovsepyan.

APA reports quoting Sputnik Armenia that the Yerevan Court of Appeal, chaired by Judge Mnatsakan Martirosyan, considered the petition of Agvan Ovsepyan's lawyers.

The court denied the motion and remanded Agvan Ovsepyan in custody.

The lawyers demanded that Agvan Ovsepyan be released on bail.

It should be noted that Agvan Ovsepyan served as Prosecutor General from March 18, 2004 to September 13, 2013, and Chairman of the Armenian Investigative Committee from July 18, 2014 to June 11, 2018.

He was detained last year as part of a criminal investigation by the Special Investigation Service.

The former prosecutor general is accused of embezzling property, accepting large bribes and money laundering.
