The average annual electricity bill of household subscribers in Bulgaria is BGN 836.

In order to pay it, a worker on a minimum wage of BGN 710 per month must work 36 days, KNSB calculated.

The union cites an analysis by the European Confederation of Trade Unions, according to which the average annual electricity bill is already higher than the monthly salary of low-paid workers in most member states of the European Union, BNR reports.

Around 9.5 million workers were struggling to pay their energy bills even before the high-cost crisis began.

The results of the analysis were announced ahead of an extraordinary meeting of the European Union's Energy Council on Friday.
