Moldova is on the front line with Ukraine and accepts refugees, who make up about four percent of its population. We are starting to study the possibility of the country being supported by the European Union (EU).

This was stated by MEP Andrei Novakov

Andrey Novakov is a Bulgarian politician from the GERB party and an MEP in the European People's Group during the conference "Bulgarian Voices for Europe" at the National Press Club of the Bulgarian Telegraph Agency (BTA) in Taraclia, Moldova.

He explained that he was involved in approving the proposal that every EU country that accepts refugees with more than one percent of its population should receive support from the European budget.

According to Novakov, Europe must take a "huge step" in building a unified European defense.

I think it is high time for Europe to realize that we cannot act as if what is happening in Ukraine is something that does not affect us, the MEP commented.
