North Korea, Cuba, Venezuela and Nicaragua condemned the visit to Taiwan by US House Speaker Nancy Pelosi.

Pelosi arrived in Taiwan late Tuesday on a trip she said showed unwavering American commitment to the self-ruled island, which China claims as its territory.

It is the first time in 25 years that an American politician of such rank has visited Taiwan.

China condemned the visit as a threat to peace and stability in the region and summoned the US ambassador in Beijing, Nicholas Burns, to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, to whom he expressed his protest.

North Korea's foreign ministry criticized the US's "reckless interference" in China's internal affairs in connection with Pelosi's visit, Reuters reported, citing the Korean Central News Agency (KCTA).

A foreign ministry spokesman said North Korea "strongly condemns" any external interference on the Taiwan issue and "fully supports" China.

Cuba, Venezuela and Nicaragua also condemned Pelosi's visit to Taiwan, TASS reported.

The ministries of foreign affairs of the three countries made statements regarding the visit and described it as a provocation.

Cuba expresses its categorical rejection of actions aimed at harming the territorial integrity and sovereignty of the People's Republic of China, condemns the interference in its internal affairs and emphasizes its concern over the growing tension and the escalating situation around Taiwan.

This is a direct result of the aggressive policy and military presence of the US and its allies in the Taiwan Strait, the Cuban Foreign Ministry said in a statement.

The Venezuelan Foreign Ministry described Pelosi's visit on Twitter as a "direct provocation" that seriously threatens China's territorial integrity.

Nicaragua also said it fully supports China's position on the Taiwan issue.
