The visit will last until September 19.

During this time, Pelosi will meet with the Prime Minister of Armenia Nikol Pashinyan, the Speaker of the National Assembly of the Republic Alain Simanyan and other high-ranking persons.

The American Embassy in Yerevan informed News.am about this.

Nancy Pelosi became the highest-ranking US representative to visit Armenia after independence.

"The visit of the congressional delegation to Armenia is a powerful symbol of the firm commitment of the United States to a peaceful, prosperous and democratic Armenia, as well as to a stable and secure Caucasus," Pelosi said before the visit.

Pelosi's visit is taking place against the background of another escalation of the conflict between Armenia and Azerbaijan.

It began on the night of September 13, when the armed forces of Azerbaijan began intensive artillery shelling of Armenian positions in the border areas.

Yerevan reported the death of 135 servicemen as a result of another escalation, Baku reported the death of 77 Azerbaijani soldiers.

In early August, a delegation of the US Congress led by Nancy Pelosi visited Taiwan.

This became the reason for the aggravation of relations with China, which considers Taiwan its territory and declares its intention to reunite with it.

Beijing saw Pelosi's visit as an undermining of its sovereignty and began military exercises with live guns in six waters around Taiwan.
