Cryptocurrency analysts say at least $ 9 million has been donated so far to the war effort in Ukraine through anonymous Bitcoin donations.

According to the BBC, researchers in Elliptic, a blockchain analysis company, say that the Ukrainian government, NGOs and volunteer groups have collected "money" by advertising the addresses of their bitcoin portfolio on the Internet.

More than 4,000 donations have been made so far, with an unknown donor donating $ 3 million worth of Bitcoin to an NGO, while the average donation is $ 95.

The official Twitter account of the Ukrainian state called on users to "stay with the people of Ukraine" and said it was accepting donations in the form of cryptocurrencies Bitcoin, Ethereum and USDT.

The address for "two cryptocurrency wallets" was also posted there and within four hours it had raised more than $ 3.3 million from donations.

Elliptic founder Tom Robinson told the BBC: "While some funding and payment companies have refused to allow donations to groups supporting the Ukrainian military, cryptocurrencies have emerged as a viable alternative."
