North Korea has announced the first case of omicron

"For the first time, the state media showed the chairman (of the DPRK State Council) wearing a mask during a public event. This shows how seriously the authorities take the coronavirus situation," Yonhap said.

At the meeting, the North Korean leader ordered the blockade of all cities and counties.

According to him, the task of the authorities is to eliminate the virus as soon as possible, prevent its spread and ensure prompt treatment of those infected.

The DPRK has not yet confirmed any cases of coronavirus

The meeting criticized officials in the sector for combating epidemics of "irresponsibility and incompetence", stressing the need to put the health system in a mode of "maximum emergency quarantine".

On Sunday, authorities in the capital, Pyongyang, analyzed samples taken from patients with fever and concluded that the samples were identical to those of Omicron's BA.2 sub-variant.

The CCTA did not specify the number of cases identified.

However, according to Yonhap, there are many infected.
