Kalicharan Maharaj arrested for making derogatory remarks against Mahatma Gandhi in Dharma Sansad

Kalicharan Maharaj has been arrested for making 'derogatory' remarks against the Father of the Nation Mahatma Gandhi in the Parliament of Religions held in Raipur, Chhattisgarh and praising his killer Nathuram Godse.

Kalicharan has been arrested from Khajuraho in Madhya Pradesh. Raipur SSP Prashant Agarwal has confirmed the arrest of Kalicharan.

According to police sources, Kalicharan had made a booking at a guest house in Khajuraho but he did not stay there, he did not even check out from that guest house so that he could dodge the police.

Kalicharan had stayed at a man's house near Bagheshwari Dham, 25 km from Khajuraho.

To avoid the police, all his associates had also switched off the phones.

The police searched for clues throughout the day and in the early morning a team of 8-10 policemen arrested him and left for Raipur.

He will be produced in the court by this evening.

Kalicharan Maharaj, who came from Akola in Maharashtra, had said in his address that the aim of Islam is to capture the nation through politics.

He also declared 'Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi destroyed the country... Salute to Nathuram Godse, who killed him.'

Kalicharan Maharaj demanded that the people choose a 'hardcore Hindu leader' to "protect" Hinduism.

Congress leader Pramod Dubey, who himself was present in the Parliament of Religions, later, on the complaint of Kalicharan Maharaj, the police booked Section 505(2) of the Indian Penal Code (statements provoking or promoting enmity, hatred or ill-will between different classes). And a case was registered under 294 (obscene act).

During the investigation, the police had also confiscated the video of Kalicharan's remarks against Mahatma Gandhi and a particular community.
