In 2016 - up to 35 million. Demand is growing.

Scientists are still investigating the effects of e-cigarettes on the body, and none of the studies provide a definitive answer.

The US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) notes that e-cigarettes are generally less harmful than tobacco.

But they also have nicotine, which is addictive.

The CDC compares them to smoking and notes slightly less harm to the body, rather than benefit.

Researchers at the University of Rochester Medical Center reported that inhaling flavored mixtures of electronic cigarettes causes the death of white blood cells, increases the level of inflammatory markers, and oxidative stress from them damages the lungs.

Scientists from the New York School of Medicine say that e-cigarette smoke may be carcinogenic and increase the risk of heart disease, lung cancer, inflammation and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease.

Myth:

With the help of electronic cigarettes, it is easier to quit smoking

Truth:

This is a trap, because statistics show that most people who take up e-cigarettes to kick their nicotine habit continue to smoke both traditional and e-cigarettes.

Myth:

Passive smoking of e-cigarettes is not as harmful as regular cigarettes

Truth:

Smoking e-cigarettes is dangerous for people around the smoker.

Passive smoking is especially harmful for pregnant women and children.

The advent of electronic cigarettes has had a major impact on teenage smoking.

In 2017, every fifth teenager aged 13-15 in Ukraine smoked electronic cigarettes.

What they would smoke without these things and whether they would smoke at all is a hypothetical question, but electronics made smoking "fashionable".

Smoking (in general, any kind - ed.) is harmful to your health, it's just that scientists have not yet determined how bad things are with electronic cigarettes.
