Marriage programs banned in Islamabad after 10 pm (symbolic photo)

As part of efforts to save electricity, the Pakistan government has decided to ban marriage programs in the city of Islamabad after 10 pm and to close markets across the country at 8:30 pm.

This information was given in the media reports on Wednesday.

According to the news of 'Geo News', Pakistan, which is facing severe power crisis, has taken several steps to reduce the consumption of electricity and now there will be a ban on marriage ceremonies after 10 pm in Islamabad which will be effective from June 8.

The current power crisis has also affected Pakistan's economy, due to which the National Economic Council (NEC) has directed the closure of markets across the country (local time) at 8.30 pm.

This decision has been taken during the meeting chaired by Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif regarding the power crisis.

The Chief Ministers of all the provinces participated in the meeting except the Chief Minister of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

A statement issued in this regard said that the Chief Ministers of Sindh, Punjab and Balochistan have sought two days' time to consult with the traders' association, but they have agreed to the move.

Addressing the journalists, Power Minister Khurram Dastgir said that early closure of markets and work from home system can save electricity.

"The power generation in the country is 22,000 MW and the requirement is 26,000 MW," the minister said.

He said that there is a shortage of about 4,000 MW in the country.
