Google workers could soon be looking for new jobs after the tech giant's chief executive warned of an 'economic crisis', while calling on workers to be "more entrepreneurial" and perform their duties with "more dedication".

Sundar Pichai, CEO of Google's parent company Alphabet, said on Wednesday it would slow the pace of hiring for the rest of the year, the latest company to take such a step after decades of high inflation and fallout from the Ukraine crisis. they are putting pressure on businesses, Telegrafi reports.

"Moving forward, we must be more entrepreneurial, working with greater urgency, sharper focus and more hunger than we have shown in the 'sunny days,'" Picahi wrote in the email, which was obtained by Wall Street Journal.

"In some cases, this means consolidating where investments overlap and simplifying processes.

In other cases, this means halting deployment and reallocating resources to higher priority areas."

The announcement joins search engine parent Google with other big tech companies including Uber Technologies and Twitter and comes a day after Microsoft said it would eliminate some positions.

"Like all companies, we are not immune to economic fluctuations," Alphabet said.

Hiring efforts will be focused on engineering and technical roles, it said.
