The Eurovision Song Contest has been confirmed to be held in the United Kingdom next year.

The organizers of the show decided that the event could not be held in the winning country, Ukraine, because of the ongoing war after the invasion of Russia.

The UK came second this year, so talks had already begun with the BBC.

"We are grateful to our BBC partners for showing solidarity with us," said Mykola Chernotytskyi, head of Ukraine's public broadcaster UA:PBC.

It is not yet known in which city it will be held, but some of them such as Glasgow, Manchester and Bristol have expressed interest.

The UK has a number of locations with suitable arenas, accommodation and international transport links.

Leeds, Liverpool, Newcastle, Birmingham, Aberdeen, London, Brighton, Bristol, Belfast and Cardiff could also be in the running among others.

Last week President @ZelenskyyUa and I agreed that wherever Eurovision 2023 is held, it must celebrate the country and people of Ukraine.

As we are now hosts, the UK will honor that pledge directly – and put on a fantastic contest on behalf of our Ukrainian friends.

Cities will have to prove they have the right facilities and go through a process, which will begin this week.

Ukraine will automatically qualify for the Grand Final, as is usually the case for the winner, along with the so-called 'Big Five', which includes the United Kingdom.

UA: The PBC will work with the BBC to develop Ukrainian elements of the show.

We emphasize that this year the winner of Eurovision was the Kalush Orchestra with "Stefania".
