Ukraine can and should host the Eurovision Song Contest 2023, British Prime Minister Boris Johnson said on Saturday, after organizers said they were in talks to keep it in Britain because of the war.

While according to tradition, the winner of the Competition to be his host next year, the organizers said that due to the current conditions discussions have started to keep him in Britain.

"Of course I would love to be in this country, but the fact is that they won and they deserve to have it and I believe they can and should have it," Johnson told reporters upon arrival in Britain.

"I believe Kyiv or any other safe Ukrainian city would be a fantastic place to have it," he added.

"It is a year away, it will be good until the moment when the Eurovision Song Contest comes and I hope the Ukrainians do it."

Friday's reports that Eurovision 2023 is to be held in the UK have left people in Kyiv disappointed, who have demanded further negotiations.

Eurovision 2023 was told to pass in the UK as Ukraine is still under Russian occupation and it takes many months of preparation until the festival.

This year's winner at Eurovision was the Kalush Orchestra, who later sold the trophy to help their country.
