Russian troops have finally lost control over the strategically important city of Liman in the Donetsk region, apparently suffering significant losses - this next failure of Russia will increase the pressure on the command of the Russian army.

This is stated in the Sunday intelligence review of the Ministry of Defense of Great Britain.

According to her estimates, the defense of Liman was held by small units of the Western and Central Military Districts of Russia, as well as contingents of voluntarily mobilized reservists.

"The force likely suffered heavy casualties as it retreated along the only road out of the city, which is still in Russian hands," the review said.

British intelligence explains that Lyman is operationally important, as control over it means control over a key crossing of the Seversky Danets River, along which Russia is trying to strengthen its defenses.

"Russia's withdrawal from Liman is also a significant political setback (for Russia), given that it is located within the Donetsk region, a region that Russia allegedly sought to 'liberate' and which it tried to illegally annex," the report added.

British intelligence notes that the withdrawal of Russian troops from Liman led to a new wave of public criticism of the Russian military leadership by individual officials.

And further losses of territory "will almost certainly lead to an increase in this public criticism and increased pressure on the higher command structure."
