The President of Albania, Bajram Begaj, received the Prime Minister of Luxembourg, Xavier Bettel, in a meeting today.

President Begaj appreciated the very good and friendly relations between the two countries in this year that marks the 100th anniversary of the recognition of Albania by Luxembourg and the 50th anniversary of the restoration of diplomatic relations, the presidency said in a press release.

President Begaj expressed his gratitude for the valuable assistance that Luxembourg provided to deal with the damages caused by the devastating earthquake of November 2019 in Albania.

Regarding the process of European integration as well as the attention that Albanian society and institutions pay to it, President Begaj appreciated the unsparing support that Luxembourg has given to Albania and the Western Balkans region throughout this process.

The President said that Luxembourg's significant support for the EU enlargement process with the countries of the Western Balkans has taken on even greater geopolitical importance, especially after the Russian armed aggression in Ukraine.

President Begaj thanked Prime Minister Bettel for the spaces and conditions that Luxembourg has created for the Albanian community that lives and works there.

The Head of State and Prime Minister Bettel emphasized the importance of the Kosovo-Serbia dialogue as the only path to peace, security and prosperity in the Balkan region.

They shared opinions on international political developments, with a focus on the consequences and impact of the war in Ukraine on world order and security and peace as a whole.
