"These additional sanctions reinforce Australia's strong objections to the actions of President Putin and the people who follow his orders," Foreign Minister Penny Wong said.

"Ukrainian regions currently occupied by Russian forces are sovereign territory of Ukraine. No pseudo-referendums will change that," she stressed.

In addition, Australia expressed its support for the case brought by Kyiv against Moscow at the International Court of Justice of the United Nations, on charges of violation of the Convention on the Prevention and Punishment of Crimes Related to Genocide.

"We support Ukraine in bringing this case against Russia to the International Court of Justice," said Australian Attorney General Mark Dreyfuss in a joint statement with the Foreign Minister, BTA adds.
