The death toll in an incident at a government office in the city of the same name in Iran's Ilam province has risen to four.

APA's Tehran bureau reports that the person who took hostages and killed himself was a former employee of the department.

Seven people were injured in the incident, some of them in critical condition.

APA's Tehran bureau reports that the incident began with an armed man taking hostages in the office of the Islamic Revolution Social Protection Fund in the city of the same name in Ilam province.

Police and security forces arrived at the scene.

A gunman opened fire on people, killing at least three and injuring five.

The hostage reportedly killed himself.

Some of the injured are in critical condition.

The dead and injured were employees of the department.
