Sri Lankan President praises Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru

Sri Lankan President Ranil Wickremesinghe has praised India's first Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru.

India on Monday gifted Sri Lanka a Dornier maritime reconnaissance aircraft that will enable the island nation to tackle a range of challenges such as human and drug trafficking and other organized crimes in its waters.

Sri Lankan President Ranil Wickremesinghe was also present in a ceremony regarding this. 

Referring to the anniversary of India's Independence Day on Monday, Wickremesinghe said he was inspired by the country's first Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru's famous 'promise to destiny' speech on August 14, 1947, on the eve of India's independence. was.

He said, 'It is showing the way forward decided by Pandit Nehru.

India understood this and is becoming a world power today, and it is still on the rise – until mid-century when we are not there, you can see a mighty India playing a major role on the global stage.”

Wickremesinghe said that Nehru had played a leading role in making Sri Lanka a part of the United Nations and had given full cooperation.

V Krishna Menon, who was India's representative to the United Nations at that time, helped Wickremesinghe's father. 

Wickremesinghe said he would like to advise emerging Sri Lankan leaders to get to know their Indian allies better.

"Like results in other areas of cooperation with India, providing Dornier to Sri Lanka's Air Force is relevant and a step towards meeting its maritime security needs," he said.

This is an example of India's ability to increase the power of its friends.

Sri Lankan President Wickremesinghe expressed his gratitude to India for gifting the Dornier aircraft to his country and said that it would help initiate cooperation between the Sri Lankan Air Force and Navy with the Indian Navy in maritime surveillance.

"This is the beginning of cooperation between the Sri Lankan Air Force, Sri Lankan Navy with the Indian Navy in maritime surveillance," he said.
