Wall Street opened today's trading session with gains in major indexes after the latest inflation data raised hopes that the Federal Reserve may take a step toward cutting interest rates, Reuters reported. At the same time, however, higher government bond yields depressed earnings growth.

The Dow Jones Industrial Average added 0.56 points, or 0.00 percent, to 39,807.93.

The broader Standard & Poor's 500 rose 3.62 points, or 0.07 percent, to 5,257.97.

The high-tech Nasdaq rose by 17.59 points or 0.11 percent to 16,397.05 points, BTA notes.
