On the eve of the New Year holidays, Ukrainians will have to spend more money on some products due to the border blockade. Thus, the situation on the border with Poland may provoke an increase in the price of products that Ukraine imports. We are talking about fish, caviar and exotic fruits.

This was stated on the air of the telethon by the representative of the Economic Discussion Club Oleg Pendzin.

"There is great hope that the government will resolve this issue and the blockade will end by the end of this year. If this happens, there will be no price increase," Pendzyn said.

"As for deep-frozen fish, it has not yet risen in price. Slightly frozen fish went up a little in price," he explained.

He also added that a certain segment of our market, some types of food basket come from Poland. Therefore, exotic fruits may also rise in price. For example, citrus fruits.

"This is the category of products we import. We produce everything else ourselves, there will be no problems with this," he said.

Why Polish carriers are on strike on the border with Ukraine

The Poles planned to organize a protest on November 3, but then postponed it for three days. But they immediately announced that the blocking would last for several months — until January 3, 2024. On November 23, Ukrainian Customs reported that the Strakari had probably received approval from the authorities to carry out their actions before February 1.

The Poles demand that their Ukrainian colleagues again travel to the EU only with permits, that the rules for foreign carriers within Europe be tightened, that it is impossible to register companies whose finances are outside the EU, etc.

So far, the parties have not been able to find a solution that would satisfy both Polish and Ukrainian carriers. On November 13, some Polish carriers met with representatives of the Ukrainian and Polish governments. They stated that Ukrainian side did not take into account the demands of the protesters, so it was not possible to reach an agreement.
