The leading indices of the New York Stock Exchange opened with a decrease today, the first trading session of the week. Investors became cautious ahead of the release of a host of economic data later in the week that is likely to provide more guidance on upcoming decisions on key U.S. Federal Reserve rates.

Industrial Dow Jones fell 156.12 points, or 0.43 percent, to 36,089.38 points.

Asian markets closed mixed.

The broader Standard & Poor's 500 fell 30.26 points, or 0.66 percent, to 4564,37.<> points.

Technological Nasdaq wiped out 136.37 points, or 0.95 percent, to 14,168.66 points.
