On Monday, November 27, Russian President Vladimir Putin signed a law on the federal budget for the upcoming 2024-2026. Next year, for the first time since Soviet times, the Russian government intends to allocate almost a third of all spending on the maintenance of the army and the military-industrial complex.

The Moscow Times writes about it.

It is reported that according to the document, which was adopted by the State Duma on November 15, and approved by the Federation Council a week later, a total of 10.775 trillion rubles will be spent from the budget, which is 70% more than in 2023 (6.8 trillion), 2.3 times more than in 2022 (4.7 trillion), and three times higher than in pre-war 2021 (3.5 trillion).

For example, a third of the defense budget was spent by the USSR in its last years. Thus, in the 1990 budget, 71 billion rubles out of 241.3 billion, or 29.4%, were allocated for "military purposes" (data published in the archive of the former Prime Minister of the Russian Federation Yegor Gaidar).

"Another 3.338 trillion rubles, according to the law on the budget, the government will spend under the article "national security", where the budgets of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, the Russian Guard, special services and the Federal Penitentiary Service are sewn. Compared to the current year, these costs will increase by UAH 163 billion. Rubles. Thus, in total, almost 40% of the budget will be spent on law enforcement agencies," the statement said.

At the same time, funding for state propaganda will remain at record levels: state media will receive 121.3 billion rubles from the budget against 122 billion this year. Expenditures under the item "culture and cinematography", where the budgets for the creation of pro-war propaganda films are sewn, will increase by 11%, to 234 billion rubles.

"Everything for the front, everything for victory," Finance Minister Anton Siluanov said in September, commenting on the document. He urged not to worry that there would not be enough money in the treasury. But it will be enough for what is planned. A normal, healthy budget," the Russian minister stressed.

Recall that Russian dictator Vladimir Putin is afraid of a war of attrition, although he demonstrates to the whole world that he is ready for such a development of events. Now it is important for him to end this war before the US elections.
