Zanzibar: Zanzibar President Dr. Hussein Ali Mwinyi said the government has begun to take action to tackle the rising prices of food, especially rice and sugar in the country.

Dr. Mwinyi made the remarks today while speaking to exporters and government officials.

He also said the government's ambition is to restore the initial prices for goods in the shops, and he has also ordered the government to give its foreign currency and prioritise businesses, especially importers, so he urged the traders to work together to import the goods together.

In addition, President Dr. Mwinyi has touched on the issue of cargo coming to the regional port to reduce the cost of goods in the region.
