The main indices of the leading European stock markets ended today's trading with declines. Investors were cautious in view of the US inflation data released today in August, which recorded its biggest monthly increase this year.

London's FTSE 100 fell slightly, down 1.54 points, or 0.02 percent, to 7525,99.<> points.

In Frankfurt, DAX lost 61.5 points, or 0.39 percent, to 15,654.03 points.

Wall Street opened higher despite US inflation data

The Paris CAC fell by 30.31 points, or 0.42 percent, to 7222,57.<> points.

The pan-European Stoxx 600 index closed down 0.32 percent to 453.94 points, with most sectors turning red. Retailers' shares lost 0.9 percent. Shares of Spain's Inditex, the world's largest fast-fashion retailer, fell 3 percent, although the retailer reported half-year interim results that beat expectations with a 14 percent rise in gross profit.
